Knowledge and practice regarding cervical cancer prevention among women in a rural area of Tripura, India

Background: Cervical cancer is commonest in developing countries and the third most common form of among women worldwide which presents a later stage causing high morbidity mortality. PAP smear discovered 1941 was revolutionary screening test but acceptance poor. Objective to detect level awareness regarding prevention cervical rural study determinants cancer.Methods:A community based cross-sectional conducted field practice area Agartala Government Medical College for two months 131 chosen by multistage sampling, aged 15 years above. Quantitative data were collected administering structured interview schedule. Chi square applied testing significance findings p<0.05 considered statistically significant.Results: About 78% primary educated 33.3% have heard about health care providers source information 34.04% respondents. 99.2% didn’t hear smear, nor they any idea vaccination. They undergo cited “absence symptoms” as main reason.Conclusions:Majority studied clear cancer, vaccination very low. Intensified educational programs should be launched. Health workers physicians must play critical role counselling. Information safety, efficacy, insurance coverage etc. facilitated active HPV
